Hack Košice 2019

2 April 2019
With an IoT hack, we won twice at this hackathon in Slovakia

Hack Košice was organised on the 30-31 March 2019 in Košice, Slovakia. At this hackathon, we designed a system, called easyNàkup (en. "easy purchase"). It allowed the elderly (and others less digitally literate) to scan their handwritten shopping lists. The system then automatically issued a delivery order at their preferred (local) supplier. The project is described more in depth here.

Brainstorming and planning
After they announced all the challenges we spent significant time brainstorming and planning. Source.

The system was designed in a way that would be easy to use for people that are less comfortable with using smartphones or computers. The system would make it easier for remote villages to receive the supplies as well as help the local vendors compete with large vendors like Amazon.

Presentation
We gave a presentation to many groups of judges and they all left with a smile. Source.

All the judges were very fond of this idea as well as the fully working prototype. Nonetheless, this project enlisted for a lot of the challenges posed at the start of the hackathon (e.g. a hack that would help the Košice region, the best use of machine learning, etc.).

Very pleased about our final prototype, we had high hopes for the challenges. And indeed, we won a challenge for the best IoT hack using a Qualcomm device (we used a DragonBoard 410c). Our joy was even bigger when we heard that we also won the 1st place overall.
